About Us
Our Classrooms

LearntoSeaKayak.com is based in Norris Point, in the heart of Gros Morne National Park.  This area is one of the most impressive places in the world to paddle.  It offers challenges and rewards, no matter what your skill level.

Norris Point is situated on the "Tickle" between East Arm and South Arm of Bonne Bay.  These deeply carved fjords offers paddling conditions for novice to experts alike.

The Norris Point Waterfront is where we run many of our courses and clinics.
Gros Morne Adventures has an ideal beach for launching and provides our clients with a vibrant learning atmosphere. Gros Morne Adventures also has an equipment rental program which helps us accommodate anyone!

During the Fall/Winter 2012 season, LearntoSeaKayak.com is teaching clinics and pool sessions at the Deer Lake Pool. A heated indoor pool is the best environment to learn essential skills such as rescues and eskimo rolls. It also provides the beginner with an opportunity to comfortably practice skills, and prepare for the next paddling season!

 Our Instructors

Craig Burden has been paddling since 1998.  He did his first Paddle Canada (then CRCA) course in 2000 never to look back.  Craig worked as a sea kayak guide for 7 years and is still known to guide an occasional extended trip.  He has paddled throughout Atlantic Canada, British Columbia, Northern Labrador, most of the island of Newfoundland, and Mexico but still says that the coastline in Gros Morne National Park rivals them all.

Craig is a graduate of Memorial University's Outdoor Pursuits degree program. Craig holds instructor certifications in the disciplines of canoeing, track skiing, telemark skiing, avalanche safety, wilderness first aid and of course sea kayaking. Craig has a Level 3 instructor and a Level 4 skill designation from Paddle Canada.

When Craig is not on the water he is in the trees!  In his professional life he is a Park Warden for Parks Canada in none other than Gros Morne National Park.

Craig's favorite paddling memory is a surfing session at Jordan River on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in 2005.

Peter Broderick is a Level 3 paddler, and Level I instructor. His time on the water is most often spent on extended kayak trips. When he's not paddling, Peter is a gear-guru, working in the outdoor retail world at Arthur James. When you're ready to upgrade your paddle, boat, or pfd, he can certainly give you a few pointers. Peter also does most of LearntoSeaKayak.com's gear lectures, so you'll always learn the latest and greatest!

Stephanie Pittman manages the LearntoSeaKayak.com "office". She most often replies to your info emails, and during courses can be found on the beach or at the Kayak Cafe kitchen, making sure your experience off the water is just as fantastic as it is on the water! Stephanie earned her Level I certification in June 2010 and spends most of her paddling time tagging along on Gros Morne Adventures tours of Bonne Bay!

The other half of her life is spent as a Pharmacist at Bonne Bay PharmaChoice in beautiful Norris Point! A graduate of Memorial University's Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program, Stephanie returned to her home of Gros Morne National Park for a work-life balance that's second to none. She's happy to spend her time off helping design organized and educational kayaking experiences for you!

Stephanie's favourite paddling memory is paddling into Exploits, and experiencing a step back in Newfoundland's history.
